The Prophet (SAW) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood. He (SAW) said: “Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.” [Abu Dawood] Hasaad (Jealousy / Envy) is a disease of the heart and it causes impurity to the heart, when Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked who are the best of people? He (SAW) replied: “the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue.” They asked: ‘We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean?’ he answered: ‘It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and is free of sin, transgressions, hatred and Hasad.” [Ibn Majah]

An African President – just after Independence from the colonial masters – was ‘teasing’ his congregation that the local ‘mentality and outlook’ that anything good must be ‘British – English’ and anything bad local!

For example?

Sad and Tragic!

A big rooster (chicken) must be an ‘English Chicken’ – thus ‘English orange’ – English mango (!) etc.! But there was no ‘English Cockroach’ – ‘English scorpion’ etc. – these were only local ones!

A question of mentalities and outlooks!

There is also this issue that some elements – perhaps more because of their backgrounds or perhaps sources support – think that they ‘know everything!’ and that they are better than everyone else and that they have more rights too! These people will never change – until it is too late for them – and everybody else too for that matter!

Does The State have a right to name our own children?

Should The State Name Our Children?

My granddaughter born over 3 months ago still remains ‘officially as unnamed’ – though the choice by her parents was Sibel.

See what Sibel means here – ****

This is me playing with my new granddaughter ‘Sibel’ – which the Authorities still refuse to accept because is ‘not Omani nor Islamic”

!! :(!

Is somebody out there who can correct these simple things affecting simple Omani families with No Wastah? Influence??

Things need to change … and fast too!

Does The State have a right to name our own children?

I would say a definitive and affirmative yes – but sense and sensibility need to prevail also! Though I  think it is Shakespeare that had said a rose named by any other name would smell just as sweet! Of course with the Cynics adding ‘mind the thorns’!

If I wanted to name my son as Cheetah, Tiger or Lion in East Africa they would look me up in my face and ask me to have my head examined! But yet I have a son named as Fahad (Cheetah) because a great king had the same name!

Recently my son tried to name his newly born daughter as SIBEL – which has meaning of something like rain drops before it hits the ground – and so many other varied meanings – like Oracle, Prophetess etc – but all good and nothing bad in reality! It is also a common name in Turkey after a famous actress! Sebil Kekilli, Sebil Redzip – Muslim Turkish names! See images.

His application has been turned down continuously – even though the name is ‘in the acceptable names dictionary list’! Even after formed a committee to study the name! Like in most committees if you make annoyance in the beginning of your application – and especially to the influential person in the committee – who will see that his view reigns supreme!

These kind of ‘red tape and bureaucracy’ still irks and upset people very much  – despite all the changes being propagated and in modern tools and apparatuses! Our public officials will not change – it is in-built in them as ‘part and parcel’ of what they really are – and will not change!

For me personally I prefer respect and esteem than building big infrastructures etc – whilst the things in the public offices have simply not changed! But if these things can happen to even the highest public institutions in the country that should lead by real examples more than rather preach and rhetoric – I simply ask the favourite question like in my columns – what else is new?

May God Help and Direct us all into the right path and direction always – Ameen – Amen

The Prettiest Girl That You Ever Saw In Your Life!

  • So many others too! – See below!

Like I always say in my columns – we all watch Miss World and Miss Universe – and where each country in the world send their delegate of their ‘Miss Country’ to compete!

These competitions have lately run into great controversies of all kinds – from Feminists to Fundamentalists – but the same in outlook that ‘women are being used as a marketing commodity’ per se!

Frankly, my own views are that you will find the REAL prettiest girl that you ever saw in your life somewhere in the borders of Kashmir, Afghanistan, Turkey etc. – but is Not involved in any of such of these type of competitions!

Similarly the Best Restaurant (cannot even afford the entry fee for such a competition!) and so on … !

In summation and in conclusion, sometimes the real best things in life do not need to enter the rat race to compete and win – they are outside unrecognized and unknown – but still there!

The message – Be satisfied and grateful for whatever little you have – there are so many behind you in life – and so many far ahead of you!

As some of you may know, I was a Columnist for The Oman Daily Observer for the past 13 years until November 2013 when my two columns – with a legal enforceable contract signed by both parties for two columns on a continued basis – unless one rescinded in writing and giving one month notice period – was abruptly cut to one article only.

When I complained, the new man in charge – fellow Omani National – asked me to write a story with Omani theme for their new magazine Weekend – which I did – but they replied it ‘was not suitable for their requirements`! I found it only missing the next day in the magazine. I wrote and called but no one answered.

See the article here –

Before that for more than 6 months they did not pay me for my articles . When I complained my emails were blocked by the top guy (also Omani National)! Eventually and belatedly they paid me! Because at one time I had quit because of ‘late payments’ but was persuaded to come back because the same new man promised you will be paid – which they did – eventually 6 months later and even here periodically!

I was given an email ultimatum of only one column – or not at all! I chose the later – that is why you do not see my columns anymore now! The Indian Mafias and The Old Guards have won again to kill The Truth guy speaking out again!

Should these things happen in Oman from a Government run paper? You be the Judge!

And yes I am also Author of 10 books I had to beg them to cover my books for the new ones even The Road Safety Ones though Muscat Daily easily covered my books on a public interest as Omani Author! Do I need to say more? Sad!!

The books they cover are from VIPs and outsiders – and picture books or children books – but no serious stuff like mine that makes you think! They can even cover Malala – but not their own!

Is this a National Policy? Even the CIA looks after itself! Yet we see live how a school graffiti destroyed a whole nation – but yet we do not see or hear! Or allow people to speak! And yes – No one is afraid anymore!

If this can happen to an Omani National Senior Professional I dread to think what would happen to the younger ones in other media  places! Very scary even to think about it!

The Big Question – Should a Government National Newspaper be run this way get involved – because these things have been known to effect us all in one way or the other – See The Mouse Trap Story!

The Mouse Trap story

I just had to share this one with you all!

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

What food might this contain? The mouse wondered – he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, ‘Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me.” I cannot be bothered by it.’ The mouse turned to the pig and told him, ‘There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!’

The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. ‘Be assured you are in my prayers.’ The mouse turned to the cow and said ‘There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!’ The cow said, ‘Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.’ So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house — like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital , and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient.

But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbours came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.  So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn’t concern you, remember — when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend

Best Regards,

Majid Al Suleimany

With sincere due apologies!

Can You Buy Respects?

I Respect You, Sir! Image

Can You Buy Respects?

Respect Me – Or Not!

  • It is so easy to preach in life – but to practice yourself what you are preaching are completely different issues!
  • A thief can write a book about ‘why it is bad stealing’ – but continue as a thief unimpeded!
  • Do not believe everything in print – especially from people known to always lie and cheat – and who are themselves not ethical but yet want to preach ethics etc. to others!
  • Really a shame and a great tragedy really!

Supposed to be the most smart, brilliant and intelligent species on the face of the earth – human beings still never fail to amaze and shock you – shock and awe! People always accuse me of not being more trusting and optimistic (Be more positive man!)  – – or that guy who always see that the glass is half empty (not half full!).

But if you are like me diabetic – whatever you want to call it – I will still need a refill – and that automatically destroys whatever label that you have put on the first glass! It is; therefore, better to bring in the glass full for me to appreciate the welcome! Just like in some Arab countries – when they serve you black coffee – it is always full in the small coffee cup – whilst that is an insult here in our Oman! See you always learn something from my column – even if it maybe trifle or small!

People like us who like to write need to be careful with our words – lest people misread us – or let ourselves be incriminated – or into serious and more troubles. People simply do not like to be told the truth – or be reminded of it. Even if deep down in their minds and conscience they know that the truth is being told – and even if not covered by a sugar coating – as I too am being accused of! Those of you who know me well (some too well!) would now be concluding – this is leading to somewhere – and there he goes off again – something has pissed him off (again?) – and set him off (again)! What is it this time??

Truthfully,  I have seen a lot of things in my life – life’s ups and downs – and how human beings can let you down at the worst time of your life – at the most inopportune and inconvenient time – and by the same people that should know and behave better – and sometimes near you – and you have trusted too!

One time,  I had an issue with one place and with one expatriate – powerful and influential there – but my Omani peer and CEO told me these words that I will never forget to the end of my life of human naiveness and stupidity – I can go to sleep and give that person my soul – and when I wake up – he will give it back to me!  I do not have that very strong Religious affiliations and associations – because in my heart I wanted to tell him that you have just lost being a Believer – when you make men as soul keepers per se!

Not wanting to incriminate myself – or open myself to liable – what I will say next is best in parable and allegory format! Honestly and truthfully – I have never ever before been so shocked by this thing that I am now trying to describe to you!

Imagine this! You have a still practicing and using stuff drug addict who comes preaching to you – gathered together – about dangers and perils of taking drugs. Or a guy top drunk walks into a conference room where you are all gathered together – and sternly lectures you about dangers and perils of alcohol! Or even still – a drug enforcing (or other types) official on the take – lectures you about bribes and corruption! Now do you see where this is all leading to?

The question that I want to pose here is this!

What gives you this right to hoodwink, lie and cheat to people? Is it because you take people for granted and as bumbling crazed fools – and will take in everything thrown to them – hook, bait and sinker? That people are so naïve and gullible that they will believe everything thrown to them – especially when you give it an air of authencity and reality surroundings – so they will believe what you are throwing to them? Cannot you just afford to think for a minute that people are just ready to cover any news they can find – and some had no choice in the matter – but just to come in – and listen to you – telling lies, fibs and fabrications? Real Shame on you! Make your own house in order first – before going on to lecture on others!

It takes all kinds to make the world! I was watching this Arab Uprisings serials in Al Jazeera English – and this famous person now lost his position of fame, authority and power giving a lame does not hold water excuse – We all knew what type of person he really was – but we all supported him – not because we did not notice his flaws and weaknesses – but simply to maintain our area of influences – and what we can still get from him! You are saying that now – after all that has happened? How sickening and devilish human beings can get – I tell you!

 Take Care!
